Direct assistance is a service provided to a CARD-FSU constituent in their home, school, or community. Direct assistance can include phone/e-mail contacts and home-based consultation for an individual. Direct assistance may also take the form of community or school site visits, attending meetings, research and resource dissemination, connecting families to community supports, and/or assistance with implementing ideas from training sessions. The purpose of these activities is to work directly with an individual constituent and/or their families to provide them, their school or agency with information that will help meet the needs at hand.
Technical assistance is a service provided to a professional group, agency, classroom or school district. This level of assistance is for the purpose of offering specific intervention strategies that can modify or enhance the outcomes within a designated setting. Technical assistance may occur after participants have attended training and want help applying what they learned.
Other types of technical assistance might be in the form of school district system change efforts. The focus of technical assistance is not any one individual, but rather on the general service delivery issues in a setting. Assistance may be in the form of phone contacts, visits, meetings and research and resource dissemination.

Scheduled trainings are listed on our training calendar and are also included in our biannual newsletter that is sent to all professionals, families, and constituents on our mailing list. Training may address early childhood, school-age or adult issues and may address areas such as communication, visual supports, peer empathy, problem behaviors, etc. CARD-FSU offers several DOE Regional trainings each year.
